BOLIVAR – Dick Harvey and Tom O’Dell of Club 3000 were presented an environmental award by Lawrence Township trustees for their service to the area.

Harvey told trustees at their Thursday meeting that the township should have an emergency response plan in effect. According to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency director’s findings and orders issued Feb. 27, an evacuation plan should be in place within 60 days after the findings were issued. The emergency response plan is listed in the findings and orders on Page 21, Section 11.

The findings indicate there should be evacuation routes and shelter locations in place, federal, state and emergency content information in an even a catastrophic even should occur at Countywide Recycling and Disposal Facility in East Sparta in Stark County. A copy of the plan should be presented to the Ohio EPA, Stark County, and local emergency planning commissions, the Country EMA and all local fire departments.

Harvey said Friday if something catastrophic would happen at the landfill it would emit gases into the air and all areas downwind would have to be evacuated.

Trustees also approved a five-year contract with Bolivar Fire Department for fire protection and emergency services. Voters in Lawrence Township approved a 4-mill replacement levy for fire protection and emergency services in November which will generate more than $450,000 annually.

In other business, trustees:

- AGREED the road crew will begin working from 6 to 2:30 April 1 through the summer months.

– HIRED Matt Meeker of Bolivar to begin working part time and then full time for the township during the summer.

– REMINDED residents to remove all decorations from Fort Laurens Cemetery by Thursday.
